One-on-One Specialist Aquatic Instruction

At Can Do Aquatics, I provide dedicated, one-on-one aquatic instruction for children of all ages and abilities. My focus is on creating a supportive and practical learning environment, especially for children who may find group lessons challengingโ€”including those with autism, ADHD, sensory sensitivities, and other neurodiverse ways of learning.

What Makes This Approach Different:

๐ŸŒŠ Truly Individualised โ€“ Every session is designed around your childโ€™s unique abilities, interests, and comfort level. We move at their pace, always.

๐Ÿค Fully Supported & Personal โ€“ With just the two of us in the water, your child receives my complete attention. This allows me to respond in the moment, whether that means taking a sensory break, trying a new skill, or simply building trust.

๐ŸŠ A Calm, Controlled Setting โ€“ All sessions are held in a quiet, indoor, heated ozone pool. This intentionally low-sensory environment helps reduce anxiety and overstimulation, making it easier for your child to engage and learn.

๐Ÿงฉ Informed by Neurodiversity โ€“ As a qualified Autism Swim Instructor with over a decade of specialised experience, I use sensory-aware techniques and flexible teaching methods that respect how your child perceives and interacts with the world.

โœ… NDIS Funding Support Available โ€“ Many families successfully use their NDIS plans to access this specialised instruction. It aligns with goals around skill-building, safety, and community participation. I can help you navigate the process.

What We Work Toward:

  • Essential Water Safety & Drowning Prevention Skills

  • Building Confidence and Comfort in the Water

  • Developing Foundational Aquatic Competence

  • Improving Motor Skills and Coordination

  • Fostering a Positive, Joyful Relationship with Swimming

Aqua Playgroup

Aqua Playgroup is a fun and supportive introduction to the water for babies and young children (including neurodivergent children up to 5 years of age) with a parent or caregiver joining them in the pool. These sessions are designed to build early water confidence, encourage bonding, and help little ones feel safe and happy in the water.

What makes Aqua Playgroup special:

  • ๐ŸŒŠ Gentle Introduction โ€“ Songs, games, and playful activities make the water a fun and positive place to be.

  • ๐Ÿ‘ถ Parent Involvement โ€“ Caregivers are in the pool, supporting and bonding with their child throughout the session.

  • ๐ŸŠ Warm, Safe Pool โ€“ Classes are held in a quiet, indoor, heated ozone pool, perfect for babies and toddlers. Only class in at this time.

  • ๐Ÿค Small, Calm Groups โ€“ Sessions are run in small groups to keep the environment supportive and relaxed.

  • ๐Ÿงฉ Inclusive Approach โ€“ Specifically designed to welcome children of all abilities, including those with additional needs and neurodivergence (up to 5 years).

Session Goals:

  • Building trust and comfort in the water

  • Developing basic water awareness and safety

  • Strengthening parent-child connection

  • Encouraging gentle social interaction

  • Laying the foundations for future swimming skills

๐Ÿ’ฆ More Than Just Play: The Secret Science Behind Fun Week!

If youโ€™ve taken a look at the video on this page, youโ€™ll see a lot of splashing, a ton of smiles, and some seriously high-energy games. Last week was Fun Week, and while the children thought they were just having an absolute blast, every single activity was intentionally designed as purposeful water therapy.

When I design these sessions, my goal is to blend joy with development. By using creative toys, visuals, and specialized equipment, I sneak essential therapeutic movements into games so the children learn, grow, and build strength without even realizing they are working!

๐Ÿง  What We Played (And What They Secretly Learned!)

Every game during Fun Week target specific developmental, fine motor, and gross motor skills:

  • Fine Motor Coordination: Using tongs to rescue smiley men and squeezing pegs onto a line might look simple, but it builds the exact hand strength, grip, and finger dexterity needed for writing, cutting, and daily tasks.

  • Gross Motor Strength & Balance: Standing on a kickboard for some "kickboard surfing" or lifting the big toy dumbbells builds incredible core stability, leg strength, and body awareness.

  • Hand-Eye Coordination & Spatial Awareness: Shooting hoops, tossing cones, throwing sticky balls, and shooting robots require focus, timing, and upper-body control.

  • Water Confidence & Breath Control: Venturing into the dark "cave" under the big mat or diving down to pick up rings helps children conquer fears, practice breath control, and navigate changing sensory environments comfortably.

  • Problem Solving & Cognitive Skills: Catching toy fish with nets or a toy shark turns tracking and reaching into an exciting game of focus and determination.

๐Ÿ† Unlocking New Skills Through Laughter

The pool is the ultimate environment for therapy. The water provides gentle resistance to build muscle, buoyancy to support balance, and a safe space to try new things.

Fun Week was filled with endless laughter, but most importantly, I watched so many of my students walk away with brand-new skills unlocked and a massive boost in confidence.

Take a look at the video to see the hard work and happy smiles in action!Want to know more about how I tailor one-on-one sessions to your child's specific developmental goals? Feel free to reach out!
